KuRo was originally designed for the office building of the Studio Boltshauser from which it adopts its clear forms. The ornament is developed from isometric cubes placed on square tiles and creates a three-dimensional quality similar to the “impossible” perspectives of M.C. Escher. The staggering of the hexagonal cubes makes one look at the original motif from different perspectives, as if it were tilted – the crackle produced by the raku firing gives the tile additional depth.
